The QMAs recognise the diverse people and places that make contemporary popular music an invaluable part of our state's cultural heritage. We invite all Queenslanders to celebrate the artists, industry leaders, festivals and live music venues that keep the joy of music alive in our communities. Here's everything you need to know for 2018!
1. Past winners have gone on to do BIG things.
The QMA’s have helped launch the careers of some of Queensland’s most well-known acts. Amy Shark was a relative unknown when she took out the Pop Award in 2016 and Emma Louise was just 16 when she won the Schools Award in 2007. Who knows what amazing things the future might hold for our 2018 entrants! Check out the previous winners on our brand new website!
2. There’s a brand new prize for Song of the Year.
Speaking of kick-starting careers, in 2018 the QMA Song of the Year winner will receive a huge boost with a $20,000 promotional prize courtesy of The Music and Nova 106.9. Oh, did we mention the winner will also be immortalized with a plaque on the Valley Walk of Fame alongside the biggest names in QLD music history?
3. You’ll be heard by judges from all over the world.
One of the coolest things about entering the QMA’s is getting your music heard by music industry heavyweights from across Australia and around the globe. This year’s judging panel includes Marc Sousley (Sydney City Limits), Petrina Convey (Sony Music Australia), Amy Jarman (BMG Music Australia), Ben Godding (Kobalt Music), Jane Slingo (EMC) and Jack Bridges (Beatport) + many more.
4. We have a new home.
After three wonderful years at the Brisbane Powerhouse, Queensland music’s night of nights will move in 2018 to the Royal International Convention Centre (Royal ICC), Brisbane Showgrounds.
5. It’s a celebration!
The QMA’s Awards Ceremony is all about celebrating Queensland’s brightest emerging artists and established legends, and what kind of celebration would it be without live music? Previous years have featured star-studded lineups including Violent Soho, Ball Park Music, The Jungle Giants, Cub Sport and DZ Deathrays, just to name a few! Sign up to our mailing list for QMA finalist and winner announcements, ticketing, voting and giveaways!
6. Entering is easy, but you’d better hurry.
It’s never been easier to submit your songs for the QMA’s. Just fill out your details, drag and drop your tracks and you’re good to go. Act fast though, entries now close 28 January 2018.
