Little BIGSOUND's Back!

Presented by QMusic and Brisbane City Council, Little BIGSOUND returns in 2018 with a jam-packed program on Saturday 10 November, providing a full day of hands-on experiences for 15 – 25 year olds looking to gain real life skills, meet industry experts, and discover their local music scene. 

Hosted by State Library of Queensland (SLQ) the program will take over The Edge’s state of the art facilities between 10am – 4pm where participants will be able to choose from a variety of sessions and workshops, providing a unique opportunity for young artist and aspiring industry to gain the practical skills and relationships they need to get started in the music industry.

Supported by Visible Ink’s Enterprise Program and produced by the team behind professional development opportunities, such as BIGSOUND and Industry Connect, the one-day program brings together local booking agents, record labels, artists, venue owners, producers and digital marketing experts to help participants get their first gigs, publicise their music and improve their songwriting/music production.

QMusic is excited to announce Marie DeVita, frontwoman of WAAX, one of the most thrilling bands to come out of Brisbane, as the Mini Keynote speaker for Little BIGSOUND 2018. DeVita will share her journey touching on her personal, creative and industry experiences, performing some of the most raw and unhinged shows on stages across the country.

Music software company Ableton has again partnered with Little BIGSOUND to provide access to a suite of the latest technology to experiment with on the day. The Edge’s Digital Media Lab will transform into The Ableton Live studio; where attendees can get hands-on and make music using the next generation of production software and live instrumentation.

Artists and producers wanting to know what goes into crafting a hit song will be treated to a song breakdown by producer and songwriter Alexander Henriksson (Matt Corby, Tash Sultana, and Jarryd James). APRA AMCOS will be on hand to deliver a royalty breakdown, to help music creators get paid for their work. Sync Agent Tyler McLoughlan (The Sound Pound) will break down copyright and the revenue streams to sustain your music career. Drawing on a decade of experience, Viv Mellish (GYROstream) will unpack digital marketing strategies to help build an authentic brand across multiple social media platforms and be visible in a saturated market. For those who dream about managing an event like Splendour in the Grass or Falls Festival, Eliza Heath (QMusic) will sit down with Secret Sounds’ Georgia Beehag to provide insight to those looking at other careers in the music industry outside performing as an artist.

Facilitated through Round Table Sessions, intimate groups will get meet-and-greet time, allowing a personal dialogue between artists, aspiring workers and local industry. Attendees can meet with local managers from Amplifire Music (Confidence Man, The Jungle Giants) and Habit Music/Mirror Music Group (Gang Of Youths, Middle Kids, Brightness, Sloan Peterson). Booking agents and venues including The Zoo, The Tivoli, The Valley Drive- In, The Brightside, Black Bear Lodge, Solbar and New World Artists and PR Agencies including Collision Course and SGC Media (BIGSOUND Festival). 

Little BIGSOUND is also offering two emerging artists the chance to perform at the Artist Showcase during the day for attending members of the local music industry, as well as their peers. Last year saw rising stars, Asha Jefferies and Ruby Gilbert showcase, who went on to play BIGSOUND in 2018. This year promises to be an opportunity to see some of the most promising new artists, applications are open until October 1.
