Brisbane singer songwriter Clea has been celebrated in Fortitude Valley today with the unveiling of her 2019 Queensland Music Awards Song of the Year plaque for her single 'Dreaming'.
The Brisbane dream-pop shoegaze outfit received the prestigious award as part of the 2019 QMA Ceremony.
Lynne Thorpe and Arts Minister Leeanne Enoch awarded the scholarship to Brisbane based singer-songwriter Jaimee Fryer, member of local indie favourites Major Leagues who began releasing music under the Pool Shop moniker in 2016. She'll receive $10,000 to record her next release along with career planning advice from Chugg Entertainment.
The award was presented as part of the sold-out 2019 Queensland Music Awards ceremony, held at the Royal International Convention Centre, Brisbane Showgrounds on March 19.
Ms Enoch congratulated the other finalists - RIVAH, Jaguar Jones and Sweater Curse - and said Fryer 'impressed the judges with her ear for melodies along with her clear vision for the sound and direction of the project.”
“Feeling very humbled, overwhelmed and grateful, receiving the QMusic Billy Thorpe Scholarship...Thanks to the judges who made the tough choice.”Jaimee Fryer
Supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, the scholarship is now in its 11th year and has supported emerging musicians such as Sam Hales (The Jungle Giants) and Jeremy Neale in their developing years.
The scholarship, named in honour of the late Billy Thorpe, a great Australian rock musician who passed away in February 2007, was designed to help develop the future of rock and roll.
