The QMusic team will be right in the middle of the action at SXSW representing BIGSOUND Festival as part of the huge Australian delegation heading over to Austin, TX next week.
SXSW is the largest music festival and conference of its kind in the world, with a huge range of new, developing and established acts from all genres among 2,000+ official performers from 60+ countries.
BIGSOUND Festival will host an official party at the inaugural Australia House, new home to the hugely popular THE AUSSIE BBQ presented by Sounds Australia. The BIGSOUND Brunch will feature BIGSOUND alumni acts such as Stella Donnelly, Didirri, Slum Sociable, Gordi + more!
As part of this year's official conference schedule, QMusic CEO Joel Edmondson will facilitate an important and timely panel entitled Is Culture Change in the Music Industry Possible?
Edmondson penned a think piece published on Medium in January to kick start the conversation and has since curated an international panel including Leanne de Souza (Australian Association of Artist Managers), Sally-Anne Gross (University of Westminster) and Ebony Jeanette (EJPR).
The discussion will attempt to get to the root of the music industry's cultural problems and explore whether it is possible for such a complex, fragmented sector to develop a common culture, what an ideal music industry culture might look like, and most importantly, how we actually get there.
Now is a critical time. The massive vocal disruption that has brought the music industry’s cultural problems to the surface presents a unique opportunity. The awareness raised has already been transformational for many people who were naive to some of those problems, and has spurred many others into action.Joel Edmondson
